Middle East

Feels like a fairy tale

A few years ago I traveled to Oman. I didn't know what to expect, but the country had my interest.

But what a wonderful country this is. I arrived in Muscat. A beautiful city where it feels like you have ended up in a fairy tale. This small, white city consists of low-rise buildings with colorful brickwork, gates, domes and mosaics. In the Mutrah Souq you can wander around a maze of streets full of trinkets and delicacies. Furthermore, the Sultan Qaboos Mosque is unique in its kind with the largest hand-knotted carpet in the world and impressive Swarovski crystal chandeliers. Just beautiful!

But what was especially impressive during my trip was my visit and overnight stay in the Wahiba Sands desert. The desert is indescribably beautiful. The towering sand dunes of red sand seem to disappear behind the horizon and as you venture further into the desert, the area only becomes more beautiful and pristine. Stay in a wonderful traditional Bedouin tent in the middle of the desert and enjoy a truly unimaginably beautiful starry sky in the evening. Really fantastic!

But my visit and stay at Rass Al Jins, the breeding ground for giant tortoises, was also impressive. You see the little turtles crawl out of their eggs and walk to the sea on their own. Well, what can I say, you have to experience this for yourself!

I can best describe Oman as a fascinating Eastern fairy tale with an ancient civilization, impressive desert landscapes, beautiful oases and wadis and rugged mountain ranges. A country full of history and historical sights. The people are very friendly and hospitable and the country is very safe. But beautiful Western and luxury hotels on beautiful beaches also ensure an unforgettable holiday.

Oman is a real “must see and do” holiday. Highly recommended!
